What vitamins do I need in the fall?

Here are eight vitamins and supplements that can help keep you going as the temperature dips.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D is critical to keeping your immune system in shape through flu and cold season. Your body also needs it to regulate energy levels, keep your heart healthy and develop stronger bones.

Unlike other vitamins, Vitamin D is produced in the body when it’s exposed to adequate, direct sunlight, so deficiency is very common during the cold weather months. Though you can get Vitamin D from certain foods, like butter, egg yolk, milk and sprouted seeds, this will only provide about 10% of your necessary intake. Research suggests the best form to take is Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) because it is the closest the natural form of vitamin D that your body makes from sunlight. Most D3 supplements are made from the fat of lambs’ wool.

Garlic is a great immunity booster. The best way to get it into your system—and knock out a cold or virus fast—is to eat it raw, but your breath will pay the price. Try taking a garlic pill or capsule instead; they’re available in the vitamin aisle.

If you get cold hands and feet when the temperature dips even slightly, taking an omega-3 supplement could help. Because your hands and feet are further away from your heart, they’re the last place that blood gets pumped. According to some studies, omega-3 fatty acid supplements provide an instant boost to circulation and help to warm up your fingers and toes.

As the holiday season approaches, life can get more stressful. To prevent panic and feelings of anxiety, take a chamomile supplement regularly. Some compounds in chamomile bind to the same brain receptors and act like Valium. Chamomile supplements typically contain 1.2% apigenin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and dried chamomile flowers.

If you’ve got old knee or elbow injuries that flare up when the temperature drops, the amino acid glucosamine can improve the health of the cartilage in your joints. It also reduces some back pain.

Fish oil

Fish oil provides a boost to your cardiovascular system and supports healthy joint mobility and bone density. It also helps improve energy levels, which can really drag as daylight becomes scarce. Fish oil also helps you maintain healthy blood sugar levels and supports your sexual and hormonal health.

This autumn, trust your gut. Probiotics are essential for digestive health. Having a healthy digestive system means having plenty of healthy bacteria to synthesize vitamins, eliminate toxins and help digest food absorb nutrients. And that is critical for the health of your immune system. With regular probiotic intake, you can indulge in all the pumpkin-flavored treats you desire.

Riboflavin and Vitamin C

Tired of dry itchy cold weather skin? These two vitamins have been proven to reduce skin and lip dryness, improved skin elasticity and even promote thicker, stronger skin.

I was instructed to take these by my doctor but to be honest, I don’t think I’d know if it works unless I get more blood tests done, which is sooo not happening (I’m not a fan of needles >w< haha)The product itself is what it is though so all I can do is really assume it contains all the good stuff it says it does. Otherwise, the 'pills' look like little tiny gel beads and go down smoothly with an adequate amount of water (normal swallowing amount works just fine), and the only negative-ish comment I have about it is that it has a bit of a 'fishy' smell if you ever take a whiff of it. It doesn't TASTE like fish (though I've never exactly bit the pill apart; only swallowed), but if you just smell it with all the beads in the container, they compound to equate fish-stank.

I am happy about taking this product and hope it does good things for my body. I was surprised to find I was over-dosing myself the first four days. Then I happened to find a magnifying glass so I could read the instructions. Even though the capsule is tiny, I was surprised to read that I needed to take it every two days, not every day. At any rate I’m glad I didn’t hurt myself and I have good expectations about this Vitamin.

I used to spend tons of time outside. Now I’m a desk jockey tied to the computer most of the day. I love it, but I do have to supplement D-3.These softgels are *tiny* and easy to swallow. They’re pennies per serving, and after three bottles, I haven’t had a busted capsule yet.NOW makes decent vitamins (verified by Men’s Health) and the 5000iu D3 is at a nice price point. The science on D-3 is mixed, but if you’re going to take a supplement, this one is cheap and high-quality.

Essential for good health. Read up on the symptoms of a D3 deficiency. I was having multiple health problems and blood work showed very low D3. All my symptoms cleared up once I started taking a D3 supplement.

Very potent.Previously I was taking more than 10k IU per day of VitD in tablet form. When switching to 5k IU per day with this supplement my serum levels went up even though I had cut my IU to less than half. This is probably because VitD is oil soluble and the softgels contain VitD that is already dissolved in oil.

I had a huge vitamin D deficiency and after taking this for 4 months, my vitamin D levels went from 11 to 26. Thank you for helping me stay healthy.

I take this Vitamin D3 5,00 IU supplement daily, as per my doctor’s request (I have MS). I like that the size of the actual capsules is so small. Since I take numerous pills daily, it’s helpful to keep the size of each pill / capsule smaller. My Vitamin D3 levels are confirmed to be in a normal range, as a result of taking this daily.

Purchased this product because I believe I need this supplement. I chose this product because it contains a recommended amount in 1 pill.

I have continually heard positive things about Viva Labs, so it has become a trusted brand for me. My husband and I have used their D3 for several months and we’re happy with it. We will definitely continue to use it. The price is pretty darn good, too.

I have been suffering with fatigue, feelings of depression and exhaustion. After a visit from my doctor, he said I was Vitamin D deficient, which is not uncommon for Midwestern dwellers such as myself. So I wanted to combat that and after reading previous reviews I wanted to give this a try. I have to say, for the money spent on a bottle of this that lasts you A YEAR (yes a whole year) I am so excited I tried this. I come home from work and I still have enough energy to get me through the day and evening. Feeling much like my old self. This was a great purchase and I plan on making a Vitamin D supplement part of my daily routine.

How do you rate vitamins? They seem to work well, came well packaged and are small and easy to swallow. They are tiny with D3 oil inside, kinda like a vitamin E pill. I was told to take vitamin D3 by my Dr since my levels were low. I was taking 2,000 IU, but my levels were still low. She told me to take 5,000 IU. As for whether or not my D levels are back up I don’t know since I won’t get tested for another 6 months or so, but I have liked everything about them up to this point and if you were told by your Dr to increase your Vitamin D3 levels, then this would be the pill for you.

Only vitamin D I buy. First brand I used that actually made my blood test levels come up. I use the same brand for my whole family in the dose we each need. Small and easy to swallow too

It is a great daily supplement for fibroid prevention and shrinkage(especially when combined with black mission figs, and Vitalyzm) and some cancer prevention also. Also great for people who have a deficiency and do not get enough from natural sunlight.

I’ve been taking these for a weeks now, my mood has noticably lifted. And I notice when I forget to take one. I’m now encouraged to be outside more, get the real deal. Fantastic stuff.

After having beat cancer twice, my doctor suggested I take additional D3 since my body doesn’t process things like it used to. I’m also immunosuppressed since I lost a kidney 2 years ago due to transitional cell carcinoma. I was hesitant because I try to take as few medications as I can. If cancer hasn’t killed me yet, I don’t want the pharmaceutical company to be first.Generally, the extra Vitamin D in a multivitamin is sufficient. However, if you have bone weakness, bone malformation, or abnormal metabolism of calcium, you should get your levels checked by your doctor. Furthermore, if you have kidney disease or abnormalities of the enzyme that converts 25-hydroxyvitamin D to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D your doctor probably already has you on extra doses of Vitamin D.By trade I am a practicing ER/Trauma nurse with 20 years experience. I thought I knew my way around vitamins and minerals. Well, labdoor.com, proved me wrong. They provide excellent info on the supplements that the FDA doesn’t regulate.First, and foremost, I wanted the best inert ingredients as well as being cost effective. Viva uses organic coconut oil and is only 4 cents/capsule for a year’s worth of supplements. Even with an organic oil there are issues with solidifying, much the same as honey. After reading the reviews and seeing the pics, I asked the company and they belayed my fears. The efficacy is not affected, they just look a little funky. It’s also important to note that any vitamin or mineral supplement must be taken on a full stomach. They need to bind to something so they can be processed in the colon. A couple spoonfuls of yoghurt doesn’t count. Take the after a good meal.All-in-all an excellent product from a top-notch company. I was very impressed with their lab facilities and how rigorous their lab controls are. Customer service is quick and professional.

I’ve only been taking this for a week now but there is a noticeable difference in my mood and physicality. I know it’s only been about a week or more but I’ve lost a couple pounds (in combination with cutting down on the vino! Eek) and I’m not as emotionally down as I usually am. I used to get TONS of sunlight: I was much healthier, lighter and happier but an unfortunate job change altered all of that. It’s only been about 9 days so I’m excited to see what I feel like in a month or two! Will update another review then 🙂

Starting half a year ago, I started experiencing sudden and mysterious skin and digestive issues. This is not something I have ever experienced, and since my regular blood tests always came back with great stats, I was at a loss as to what could be causing this abrupt physical breakdown. As luck would have it, my fertility doc ordered a special Vitamin D panel with a blood test and found out I have severe Vitamin D deficiency. I was asked to start a daily 5,000 IU Vit D3 supplement ASAP, so I ordered this product same day based on the thousands of positive reviews. I have been on this supplement in addition to my usual multi-vitamin for exactly a month now, and the difference in how I feel is like night and day. My skin and digestive issues resolved almost completely in about a week after starting this. I feel wonderful and so full of energy again, and am confident that my Vit D checkup in a month will be much better. I appreciate the small size of the pills in this product, it is very easy to take. I plan on keeping this Vitamin D3 supplement as part of my daily routine to maintain this positive trajectory.A special note to those who are starting or currently in fertility treatment: My fertility doc likely tested my Vit D levels because something seemed off with my AMH levels compared to my other stats. Apparently low Vit D levels can potentially affect natural AMH production. I am including this random tidbit because there is no way any normal human being would ever think about this, and if I had known I would have started general vitamin supplements earlier. Our health is our wealth! Cheers, and stay healthy!

My husband was disgnosed with very low Vit D level thru a lab test. Our PCP ordered my husband to take 2 Gelcaps daily (total of 10,000iu daily). After a month, my husband’s energy level and mood improved greatly. At his 6 month check up, his lab levels returned to normal. I also take this product for better calcium absorption and mood. It is important that this product is made in the USA and is from a quality manufacturer.

I live in a location that is overcast and rainy for much of the year, so I don’t get outside as much as I would like to. Since I don’t have much sun exposure, I don’t the vitamin D I naturally need. This supplement is a convenient way to make up for that. It’s tasteless, odorless, and small, so it’s really convenient to use. It’s also very affordable compared to other supplements I’ve seen, and it’s a whole year’s supply. I’ll definitely buy this again when I need to refill in a year. 🙂

These are great lil pills packed with what I need. I’m so relieved they are so small. I’ll have to wait a few more weeks to determine if its going to help me with my recent asthma issues but its a supplement that I’m sure I’ve been needing for a while so fingers crossed!

So far so good… it’s been a few days and I feel a lot better. I am very low on Vitamin D and these have helped me more than the other brand I had tried. Size of pill is also great since I don’t like taking larger pills every day.

It is hard to write a review on a vitamin supplement based on performance because you do not directly feel the benefits of most, at least in a short term period. We all know that through medical research that vitamin D3 provides stronger bones through generating calcium and our lack of available sunshine which is one good way to absorb D3. The reason for the 5 star rating is based on two things; one the use of coconut oil as a medium which I know is good both topically and ingested ; two the Viva Company has very good independent lab testing results with manufacturing in the USA under FDA/GMP compliance. We may not be able to actually feel the immediate affects of any vitamin D3 product we use, but knowing it is produced by a well certified company using good ingredients makes me have more confidence in using this product.
